Tannin can form precipitation with metals, alkaloids and glycosides, which can detoxify these substances. Tannin can be used in tanning, ink manufacturing, paper and silk gluing, boiler scale prevention, etc. It can also be used as mordant, clarifier for beer and wine, coagulant for rubber, and reagent for determination of beryllium, aluminium, nickel, copper and other metals. Gallic acid and pyrogallic acid can be prepared in chemical production. Tannin is used as a dilution in the treatment of boa constrictor mud. The tannin alkali liquor made of tannin powder and caustic soda in proportion can reduce the shear force and stickiness of thickened mud and improve the mud flow. On the contrary, if tannin powder is directly added into the mud, the mud pH will decrease due to its weak acidity, and it will be exchanged with clay particles.
